Members of the Woldingham community around the world are delighted to learn that nursing sister in charge Jane de Groot was awarded a British Empire Medal (BEM) in June’s King’s Birthday Honours List for services to nursing.

Jane retired from Woldingham in 2021 after 28 years, having started in 1993. Over the years she cared for thousands of Woldingham students and staff.

Woldingham Chaplain, Fr Gerry Devlin said: “I was delighted to provide a written statement of the work she undertook during her 28 years of service here at Woldingham.  Jane worked tirelessly at Woldingham, and she was very well liked by all staff and students.  She was a lovely person to work closely with and the BEM is a well-deserved honour. We look forward to inviting her back to school so we can celebrate her award with us in the not-too-distant future.”

On leaving Woldingham Jane said: “I loved working in such a beautiful environment. The best part of my job has been getting to know the girls, watching them grow and develop, particularly those with health issues who I would see on a regular basis."
